We love to Learn!
CCCS K-8 students spent Friday learning about solar eclipses and in particular about the Great American Solar Eclipse happening this Monday afternoon! Teachers have been planning these events since last Spring! Our students learned the importance of viewing the eclipse safely and every student was sent home with 100% certified solar viewing glasses. All the grades worked on an art project to help them understand more about solar eclipses. The younger students did activities with UV beads to see how the ultra violet rays changed the color of the beads. Some of the classes then experimented to see if the solar viewing glasses, regular sunglasses, sunscreen, and other items would protect the beads from changing colors. The older students did activities to predict the corona. 4th & 5th grades set up a solar ice tea station and constructed solar ovens to make s'mores!
We can't wait to have our students tell us about their SAFE Solar Viewing experience when they come back to school on Tuesday!
We would love to have our FB family post their viewing experience in the comments of this post!
(Vocab Word - Corona - the rarified gaseous envelope of the sun and other stars. The sun's corona is normally visible only during a total solar eclipse when it is seen as an irregularly shaped pearly glow surrounding the darkened disk of the moon.)
